Marla Hansen, Rachel Schroeder Swenson, Alyssa Tolman, and Dr. Rulon Wood are the creators of the Idaho Screendance Festival (ISF).ISF was established in 2018.
ISF is an Idaho Dance Education Organization (IDEO) annual event. IDEO is a non-profit 50C3 organization and a state affiliate of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO).
Idaho Screendance Festival's mission is to promote dance and film arts in Idaho and the world. The festival is a virtual museum where a diverse range of artistic work combines choreographic and film/video practice. Artists are encouraged to further the arts by creatively exploring a wide range of ideas and themes via innovative movement, dance, and filmmaking.
Our Team
Crystal Bain teaches fifth grade and dance as an art form at the Sorenson Magnet School of Arts and Humanities. She is an Idaho Dance Education Organization board member. Bain is currently earning an MA in Dance Education at the University of North Carolina Greensborro.
Marla Hansen is the artistic director and choreographer for Idaho Dance Theatre. She is a retired dance and theatre arts professor at Boise State University. She holds an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah.
Rachel Schroeder Swenson is a Dance Education doctoral candidate at Teachers College, Columbia University. She has earned a BFA in Modern Dance and an MEd in Teaching & Learning, both from the University of Utah. Swenson is an Idaho Dance Education Organization board member. She teaches the art of dance at the audition-based public arts 6-12 grade school, Idaho Fine Arts Academy in West Ada School District. Swenson has been a filmmaker since 1995 (see her IMDB and Filmfreeway profiles for some of her film projects).
Alyssa Tolman is a dancer, choreographer, photographer & filmmaker originally from Texas. She has performed & presented work throughout the US, Canada, & Russia. Alyssa is a certified Laban Movement Analyst & completed her MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in 2014.
Dr. Rulon Wood has taught courses in numerous university departments and programs, including writing, communication, arts technology, English, film studies, and instructional technology. In addition to his academic preparation, Ru has also produced films, both narrative and documentary. He is currently a film studies professor at Boise State University.
